Professionally Remanufactured Honda Civic R18A1 Engine
This Honda Civic R18A1 Engine is a professionally remanufactured 1.8-litre petrol long motor suitable for selected Australian Honda Civic FD vehicles manufactured between 2006 and 2011 and originally fitted with the R18A1 engine.
The R18A1 is a 1,799cc inline four-cylinder petrol engine featuring a single overhead camshaft, 16 valves, Honda i-VTEC technology, electronic drive-by-wire throttle control and PGM-FI multipoint fuel injection. In Australian specification, the Honda Civic 1.8 Engine produced approximately 103kW at 6,300rpm and 174Nm at 4,300rpm. It was available with five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions in selected Civic VTi and VTi-L sedan models.
This replacement long motor provides an alternative to installing a second-hand engine with unknown kilometres, maintenance history or internal wear.

Important R18A1 Condition Disclosure

Important Civic Engine Differences
Not every 2006–2011 Honda Civic uses the R18A1. This engine is different from:
- × K20Z2 fitted to selected Civic Sport models
- × LDA petrol-electric Civic Hybrid engines
- × K20Z4 and other Civic Type R engines
- × European-market R18A2 engines
- × Later R18Z1 engines
- × Other R18Z-series engines
- × Earlier D-Series Civic engines
- × K20 and K24 engine conversions
Similar external appearance does not confirm interchangeability. Different versions may use different engine mounts, cylinder heads, sensors, intake systems, emissions equipment, wiring and ECU calibration.
When Is a Replacement Engine Required?
A replacement engine may be required when the original motor has suffered serious damage or is no longer economical to rebuild. Possible symptoms include:
- • Cracks or coolant leakage from the engine block
- • Engine overheating
- • Persistent coolant loss
- • Excessive engine-oil consumption
- • Blue or white exhaust smoke
- • Low compression
- • Difficult starting
- • Timing-chain noise
- • Valve damage
- • Low engine-oil pressure
- • Crankshaft or bearing noise
- • Internal knocking
- • Piston or cylinder damage
- • Metal contamination in the lubrication system
Systems to Inspect Before Installation
Cooling-system inspection
The complete cooling system must be inspected, flushed and pressure-tested before installation. The workshop should check:
- ✓ Radiator condition and flow
- ✓ Cooling fans and fan controls
- ✓ Thermostat operation
- ✓ Radiator cap
- ✓ Coolant hoses
- ✓ Heater circuit
- ✓ Coolant reservoir
- ✓ Water pump
- ✓ Temperature sensors
A damaged, blocked or contaminated cooling system can overheat the replacement Honda Civic R18A1 Engine.
Fuel, ignition and intake inspection
The fuel injectors, fuel rail, throttle body and intake manifold must be cleaned and tested before being transferred.
The ignition coils and spark plugs should also be inspected. Incorrect ignition or fuel delivery can cause poor combustion, misfiring, cylinder damage or catalytic-converter failure.
Timing and lubrication requirements
The engine is assembled using a new timing chain, tensioner, guides and timing gears. The installer must still verify correct mechanical timing before startup.
Use new engine oil and a new oil filter. The lubrication system must be primed so the engine develops oil pressure before it is allowed to start.
Professional Installation Requirements
This engine must be installed by a qualified mechanic familiar with Honda i-VTEC engines. Before installation, the workshop should:
- 1Confirm the R18A1 engine code
- 2Diagnose the original engine failure
- 3Inspect all transferred components
- 4Flush and pressure-test the cooling system
- 5Clean the intake manifold and throttle body
- 6Test the fuel injectors
- 7Inspect the ignition coils
- 8Install new spark plugs where required
- 9Install new engine oil and filter
- 10Install fresh coolant
- 11Prime the lubrication system
- 12Verify mechanical timing
- 13Check for diagnostic trouble codes
- 14Complete the Honda idle-learning procedure
- 15Inspect for fuel, oil and coolant leaks
- 16Confirm correct oil pressure
- 17Confirm correct operating temperature
Australia-Wide Delivery and Warranty
No exchange engine is required. Customers can retain their damaged engine until all necessary external components have been transferred.
The motor is securely packed for transport and includes free standard delivery to eligible Australian locations. Remote-area, residential, tailgate and special-handling charges may apply.
Read our engine ordering and warranty information before purchasing.
Honda Civic R18A1 Engine FAQs
Is this engine entirely brand new?
