P4AT Engine For Sale
P4AT Engine for Sale — Brand New 2.2L Turbo Diesel Crate Engine
The P4AT is the 2.2 litre four cylinder Duratorq turbo diesel that Ford and Mazda put in the Ranger and BT-50 — the workhorse version, sitting under the 3.2 litre five cylinder in the same range. Common rail, variable geometry turbo, and a working life of towing, loading, corrugations and a great many kilometres.
Most of these engines do not die of old age. They die because something feeding them failed first, and that is worth understanding before you spend eight thousand dollars.

What Actually Kills a P4AT
The most common way a P4AT ends up on a workshop floor starts with the turbo oil feed line. It clogs with carbon over the years, the turbo starves for oil, the bearings let go, and the turbo either seizes or dumps oil and debris straight into the intake and back through the engine.
The turbo is the visible failure. The feed line is the cause. That distinction matters enormously when you come to fit a replacement engine.
Every P4AT engine for sale here is brand new, built to current production standard. Hot tested before dispatch with QR video proof, shipped free anywhere in Australia, one year warranty as standard, and no core exchange required — your old engine stays with you.
Fit the Engine, Fix the Cause
More than any other engine we sell, this one punishes a rushed job. Replace a P4AT and leave the system that killed it in place, and you will be doing it twice.
Before the new engine goes in, have your workshop deal with:
- 1The turbo oil feed line — replace it, do not clean it. It is an inexpensive part that has already proven it can starve a turbo. Reusing it on a new engine is the single most expensive shortcut available on this job.
- 2The turbocharger. If it failed, or was fed contaminated oil, it needs inspection or replacement. A damaged turbo will send oil and debris into the new engine.
- 3Injectors and seals. New copper washers as a minimum. Test or replace any injector that was part of the original failure.
- 4Intercooler. Check it for cracks and clean it out if oil has passed through it. Oil sitting in an intercooler gets drawn into a brand new engine.
- 5DPF and EGR. If the DPF is loaded, the new engine inherits the same regeneration problem from day one.
- 6Cooling system. Radiator, thermostat, hoses, water pump and fresh coolant.
P4AT or P5AT? Check Before You Order
The Ranger and BT-50 were both sold with a 2.2 litre four cylinder (P4AT) and a 3.2 litre five cylinder (P5AT). They come from the same engine family, but they are not the same engine and they do not interchange.
What Vehicles Have the P4AT Engine?
The P4AT engine for sale on this page suits the following Australian applications:
| Vehicle | Series | Years |
|---|---|---|

Common P4AT Problems — and What We Have Done About Them
| Symptom | What is actually happening | Our engine |
|---|---|---|
| Blue smoke, oil in the intake, boost loss | Turbo bearing failure, usually from a clogged oil feed line | New engine — but replace the feed line and turbo, or it repeats |
| Low oil pressure warning, knocking | Bearing damage from oil starvation or soot contaminated oil | New crankshaft, rods and bearings to factory clearance |
| Carbon and soot packed around an injector | Injector seal and copper washer leaking combustion gases | New head and seals, injectors tested or replaced |
| Rough running, hesitation, EGR fault codes | Carbon loading through the EGR circuit | New engine, but the EGR circuit needs cleaning or replacing |
| DPF light, repeated failed regenerations, power loss | DPF loaded from short trip running | New engine, but the DPF must be dealt with separately |
| Coolant loss, overheating under load | Cracked intercooler, tired radiator or failing water pump | Replace at the same time as the engine |
| Rattle on cold start | Timing chain and guide wear | Current production chain, guides and tensioner |

P4AT Engine FAQs
What vehicles have the P4AT engine?
The P4AT 2.2 litre turbo diesel was fitted to the Ford Ranger (PX, PX2 and PX3) from 2011 to 2022, and the Mazda BT-50 (UP and UR) from 2010 to 2020.
What is the difference between a P4AT and a P5AT?
The P4AT is the 2.2 litre four cylinder and the P5AT is the 3.2 litre five cylinder. Same engine family, different engines, and they do not interchange. Count the injectors or check the code stamped on the block.
Why do P4AT turbochargers fail?
Most often the oil feed line to the turbo clogs with carbon over time. The turbo starves for oil, the bearings fail, and it either seizes or pushes oil and debris into the intake. The turbo gets the blame, but the feed line is usually the cause.
Do I need to replace the turbo and oil feed line with a new engine?
Replace the feed line, always. It is inexpensive and it has already demonstrated that it can starve a turbo. The turbocharger itself needs inspection or replacement if it failed or was fed contaminated oil. Fitting a new engine behind a damaged turbo or a blocked feed line is the most expensive shortcut available on this job.
What about the DPF and EGR?
If the DPF is loaded or the EGR circuit is carboned up, the new engine inherits both problems from day one, along with the heat and soot that shortened the life of the last one. Have them dealt with at the same time.
Is the P4AT engine brand new or reconditioned?
Brand new. Current production, hot tested before dispatch, with QR video proof supplied.
How fast can I get one?
It is in stock at our Queensland warehouse and ships same or next business day, typically arriving in 6 to 8 business days. Express is available at checkout if the vehicle is already booked in.
Does the P4AT engine include free postage?
Yes. Every P4AT engine ships with free postage Australia wide, fully insured and tracked.
