MN Triton engine compatibility
| Vehicle | Series & years | Engine version |
|---|---|---|
| Mitsubishi Triton | ML / MN 2005–2015 | 4D56-T · 2.5L later common-rail |
Includes MN 2009–2015 within the established ML/MN 2005–2015 listing. Suits manual and automatic 2.5L common-rail diesel models. Turbocharger is not included.
Two different 4D56 motors
This is the later common-rail version. The older SOHC 8-valve 4D56 is a separate motor. Match the engine configuration, vehicle series and year as well as the 4D56 code.
02 / Plan the replacement
A new engine assembly.
Your checked accessories.
What you are buying
Brand new replacement long block. Keep your original motor until the workshop has completed the accessory transfer. Turbocharger is not included; reuse a serviceable unit or arrange a replacement separately.
A new long block is different from a used motor or a reconditioned core.
Plan the transfer
Transfer the turbocharger, fuel system, intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator, sensors and required bolt-on accessories after inspection.
Have your installer identify timing components, seals, fluids, filters and any additional parts required before booking the job.
03 / Quality from the inside out
Take a closer look at the 4D56-T build.
We source our new motors from the same manufacturing partner, with a focus on component quality, cooling and lubrication.

01Centra Steel crankshaft
Upgraded crankshaft construction using the manufacturer’s Centra Steel material.
02Optimised head water jackets
Revised cylinder-head water jackets for improved coolant flow through the head.
03Quality main & big-end bearings
High-quality bearing components supporting the crankshaft and connecting rods.
04Improved piston oil squirters
Upgraded oil squirters that direct oil towards the underside of the pistons.
05Improved seal & O-ring materials
Improved-quality materials for the engine’s seals and O-rings.
04 / Installation & support
Plan the job around the whole vehicle.
Diagnose the original fault
Ask your workshop to identify the cause of the old engine failure and address related cooling or lubrication faults.
Inspect before reusing
Check the fuel system, turbocharger and other transferred accessories. Replace unsuitable parts rather than carrying an existing fault into the new installation.
Keep the fitting records
Use professional installation, follow the run-in requirements and keep invoices and service records for future support.

Your engine replacement questions
Which MN Triton applications does this fit?
This listing covers Mitsubishi Triton ML / MN, 2005–2015, using the later common-rail 4D56-T 2.5L diesel engine. Includes MN 2009–2015 within the established ML/MN 2005–2015 listing. Suits manual and automatic 2.5L common-rail diesel models. Turbocharger is not included.
Is this the older or newer 4D56 engine?
This is the later common-rail version. The older SOHC 8-valve 4D56 is listed separately. The shared 4D56 name does not establish interchangeability.
Is the engine new or reconditioned?
This is a brand new long block. If you are comparing used or reconditioned engines for sale, compare the supplied assembly, installation requirements and written warranty alongside the price.
What parts do I transfer?
Transfer the turbocharger, fuel system, intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator, sensors and required bolt-on accessories after inspection. Your installer should confirm the condition and suitability of each part before reuse.
Can I see my individual engine running?
Scan the supplied hot-test QR code to access the running-check video for your individual engine. This is separate from general warehouse or manufacturer videos.
Do I need to send the old motor back?
No core exchange is required. Keep your old engine until the workshop has transferred all the required components.
Will the new engine resolve an overheating problem?
The cause must be diagnosed before fitting. A new long block cannot correct a fault elsewhere in the cooling system or in an accessory being reused.
